The first boys basketball team in the state to own a 10-0 record is the squad from Wayland, as WACO had another nail-biting finish on Tuesday in a thrilling 48-45 overtime win.
This was their second consecutive one-possession victory, but unlike Friday’s game against New London, the Warriors dug themselves a huge hole early. It was all Nikes in the first half, as they exploded for a 17-2 advantage after eight minutes and led 26-14 at the break. An inspired Warrior bunch stormed back and outscored Notre Dame 20-5 in the third before forcing overtime and escaping town with the win. Nik Coble led the way with 17 points, 16 rebounds, and three steals. Pietro Vannini added 12 points.
The girls could never find their footing against the Nikes and fell 62-44 to drop to 2-9 on the season. Both teams return to action tomorrow hosting Van Buren.
