
In a Southeast Iowa Superconference showdown of KCII area teams Tuesday it was the Highland Huskies taking out the Hillcrest Academy Ravens in both ends of doubleheader in Kalona. In the girls game the Huskies sprinted to an early lead to take a 56-18 win. Highland led 17-2 after one quarter and went on a 16-2 run that lasted the entire second frame to take a 33-4 lead into the half. In the second half the Huskies outscored the Ravens 23-14 to finish out the victory. On the night, Highland was led by Alyssa Brase with 18 points. The Ravens were paced by Yani Gutierrez with eight points and eight rebounds. With the win, Highland is now 4-9 while Hillcrest falls to 1-10.
In the boys game the Huskies held off the Ravens for a 65-58 win. The Huskies found their breathing room in the middle quarters, leading just 15-14 after one, they outscored the Ravens 14-7 in the second to take a 29-21 lead into the locker room. In the third quarter it was Highland by the same number to build the lead to 48-33 going to fourth. In the final frame the Ravens exploded for 25 points to get within single digits but the comeback fell short. Zack Lasek was one of four Huskies in double figures in the win, finishing with a game high 24 points. Cole Adamson had 16, Bill Laughlin 12 and Mason McFarland 11. Eli Ours ended with a team high 21. With the win Highland is now 9-1 overall while the Ravens fall to 4-6. Highland will take on Lone Tree in a rivalry game Friday while Hillcrest makes the trip to Danville.
