Freezing temperatures are here and assistance for heating is available. Applications are now being accepted for the annual Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, also called LIHEAP. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for the federally-funded program through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. To qualify for LIHEAP, homeowners and renters must meet eligibility requirements within the federal poverty guidelines. To qualify, a family must be at or below 175% of the 2019 federal poverty guidelines – which is $45,063 annual gross income for a family of four.
Another option to help with heating costs is the Weatherization Assistance Program, which helps families improve the energy efficiency of their homes. For application information for both programs click here.
