The end of week six of the football season meant the first peek at the rating percentage index (RPI) rankings released by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
The RPI is calculated by a formula that involves the team’s record, their opponents’ record, and their opponents’ opponents’ record. Washington has the inside track for now, as they come in at 16th in class 3A with their 4-2 record. Sigourney-Keota is 6-0 in class 1A and they sit at 15th. Other bubble teams in the area include Highland 20th in class A, Lone Tree 27th in eight player, WACO 35th, and Mid-Prairie 36th in class 2A.
Playoffs for each class will be released after week nine and involve a field of 16 teams. District champions automatically qualify for the tournament.
