Area students have until Friday to apply for a job shadow through the Workplace Learning Connection. The program through Kirkwood Community College works to connect students with local industries and businesses for career exploration. Judy Marshall with Workplace Learning Connection says more than 50 businesses in the area open their doors to students for job shadows, “What we do is we go into the schools and present this, and we certainly identify some of the new careers, the trends, or the hot careers. But it is ultimately up to the student to choose which career they would like to pursue and shadow.” High school students are then able to learn if there are certain classes they should be taking for a particular career path, or they learn if a career is something that piques their interest or not. Any businesses who would like to participate by hosting job shadows or internships are invited to contact the Workplace Learning Connection.
