Kids and dogs will have a chance to swim at the Washington pool this weekend. The Washington Steele Family Aquatic Center in Sunset Park closes for the season this weekend. The last chance for people to swim is Saturday. On Sunday is the annual Doggie Paddle, where dogs can go swim before the pool is drained.

PAWS and More shelter director Amber Talbot invites people and their pooches to stop by, “It’s a wonderful community event that provides a lot of engagement and fun for residents as well as their dogs. And it serves as a fundraiser for us, so it’s a fun way to come out and support the local shelter.” Talbot adds that it’s a nice environment for dogs to try swimming out but it can be a busy time, “It’s kind of a busy environment, so as long as your pet is used to other dogs and is okay with a lot of activity, it would be a great opportunity to have them come and see how they feel about the water. It would just be really understanding if your dog is okay with kind of a busy, active environment and you wouldn’t want that to be a deterrent for him in getting used to the water or feeling comfortable.”

The Doggie Paddle runs from 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Entrance fees are $10 per dog or two dogs for $15. Proof of rabies vaccination is required, and dogs must be spayed or neutered. Proceeds benefit PAWS and More.
