A softball season and career that won’t soon be forgotten checks in at number five on our top 10 countdown of the best sports stories of the 2018-2019 academic year from KCII area schools.

Abbie Miller leaves Highland High School with her name etched into Huskie lore, as she now holds many school records. In the middle of this season, the five-year player broke the school record for career runs batted in and finished with 148. Her 47 RBI in 2019 bested the whole Southeast Iowa Super Conference and ranked seventh in class 2A. Her 13 career home runs also stands alone at Highland. The senior finished the season with a .444 batting average and a first-team all conference selection. Head Coach Carrie Wieland tells KCII Sports the senior was the ultimate leader. “The seniors did a good job making our players better and it started with Abbie. She brought a lot to the table this year and led our team quietly. She did things right on and off the field. I am really proud of what she has done for us.” Miller helped the Huskies to a 17-9 record. Check back in tomorrow for number four on our countdown when we take a look at the Highland football season.
