With RAGBRAI underway, the City of Fairfield is dotting their I’s and crossing their T’s before it’s their turn to host an overnight stay.

For the first time since 2013, Fairfield was selected to be an overnight host to Iowa’s largest and longest bicycle ride. Mayor Ed Malloys tells KCII News, having the privilege to host the event benefits the community in a variety of ways, “It’s a great opportunity. Certainly for the city’s reputation, exposing your community to people from all over the country. And then there’s an enormous economic impact. Many thousands of dollars are spent overnight here, businesses and retail will benefit greatly from that.”

Riders will begin day six in Fairfield then ride through Henry and Des Moines Counties, passing Stockport, Salem, Houghton, Lake Geode State Park, Middletown, and then rest up in Burlington after 65.6 miles. In the 47-year history of RAGBRAI this is Fairfield’s fifth time hosting.
