A severe thunderstorm affected fair patrons and other Washington County residents Wednesday afternoon.
At around 1:45 p.m. five members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team took over regular programming to provide live coverage of the storm. The warning was issued for southeast Keokuk, Southwest Washington, Jefferson, and Henry Counties. There was a report from a trained weather spotting reporting wind gusts of up to 55 miles per hour at the Washington Airport. Those enjoying the festivities at the Washington County Fair were directed to Dallmeyer Hall and other shelters. The warning was originally set to expire at 2:45, but was cancelled at 2:35.
Had the power gone out, KCII Radio would’ve stayed live on the air with our emergency backup generators.
