The top seed Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team begins the tournament trail on Tuesday at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman when they welcome the West Liberty Comets. Mid-Prairie enters action with an overall record of 17-11. Last time out they beat North Cedar 13-2 last week. For the season, the Golden Hawks are hitting .262 as a team, led by Brad Tornow with a .438 average. On the mound, the Golden Hawks have a team ERA of 3.45, led by Tornow with his 6-0 record and 0.93 ERA in 45 innings.

West Liberty comes into the game with an overall record of 11-14. They opened the playoffs on Saturday with an extra inning win over Durant by a 4-3 score. On the season, the Comets are hitting .237 as a team, led by Caleb Wulf with a .383 average. As a team, West Liberty has a team ERA of 4.21, led by Talen Dengler with a 2-1 record in 15 innings and a 2.23 ERA. These two teams met earlier in the year for a doubleheader that ended in a split with West Liberty winning game one 3-2 and Mid-Prairie taking game two 7-5. The winner of Tuesday’s game advances to play for the district title on Saturday.
