sigourney-3

Every baseball player remembers as a child in the backyard pretending they were up to bat in the bottom half of the last inning with the game and season on the line. They envision themselves hitting a walk-off, the crowd going wild, and the pure excitement from teammates as they celebrate victory. Sigourney senior Dustin Haines got to make that dream a reality on Saturday, as his walk-off single lifted the Savages past Iowa Valley 6-5 in a class 1A first round district game.

The Savages held a 4-3 advantage heading into the seventh when the Tigers rallied and managed two runs to take the lead. Sigourney answered the gut punch with one of their own by putting traffic on the base paths before Haines did the rest. He finished 2-for-4 on the night to lead a 10-hit offense. Cade Molyneux also had a pair of knocks with two runs scored. Bo Schmidt went 5 2/3 innings on the hill giving up one earned run on seven hits and Nick Goad recorded the final four outs to pick up the win.

Sigourney improves to 15-9 and they face off with BGM in Victor tomorrow for a district semifinal.
