A severe thunderstorm impacted eastern Iowa Sunday evening. Four members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team brought live, up to the minute coverage of the storm as the warning included Washington County. The warning was issued at 6:29 p.m. for Washington, Johnson, Louisa, and Muscatine Counties. Trained weather spotters saw the storm produce 70 mile per hour wind gusts. There was also torrential rainfall along the storm’s path. The Iowa City Municipal Airport had a wind gust of 54 miles per hour at 6:39 p.m. Emergency sirens were used in Louisa County to warn residents of 70-mile per hour wind gusts. Wind gusts at the Washington Municipal Airport were recorded at 50 miles per hour.

The warning had initially been until 7 p.m. but was extended to 7:45 p.m., it was again extended and officially expired at 8:05 p.m. for Washington County.
