A public hearing has been set regarding a problematic water main in Kalona.
The city intends on replacing a water main that runs underneath a garage on H Avenue between 6th and 7th Street. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh explains the need for a replacement, “I went back through and looked, we’ve had four incidences where we needed to be up there. Three times we’ve put Fernco, which is just a patch. Then we’ve had a valve issue on the west side. In a perfect world, we wouldn’t put this line in again if we were re-doing things, but it’s there and it services homes.”
Schlabaugh expects the project to cost the city between $70,000 and $75,000. A public hearing will be held July 1st at Kalona City Hall.
