Playgrounds in Washington are now smoke free spaces. The Washington City Council approved the third and final reading and adopted an ordinance making new smoke free areas in city parks. Smoking and vaping is now not permitted within a 30-foot radius of playgrounds. These spaces include the North Park playground, the Redlinger Field playground, and the following areas of Sunset Park: the northwest shelter playground, the rocket slide playground, the south boulevard playground, the New Dawn playground, and the southeast shelter playground. There will be proper signage under the Iowa Smokefree Air Act to advise park users of these areas. The ordinance also prohibits the use of electronic cigarettes in these playground areas.
