Twenty-five dogs need to go on an adventure in Washington in the next week and a half. PAWS and More Animal Shelter has a new two-hour Dog Day Adventure program to get dogs out in the community. PAWS and More is the only shelter in Iowa and the smallest in the country that was selected to take part in this study through Arizona State University. The study is analyzing the effects on shelter dogs when they have the chance to go out in the community and meet other people and see other environments. PAWS and More Director Amber Talbot is asking for the community to help, “We’re at day 20 and our goal was to do 40 dogs in 30 days. So we’re over halfway, we’ve got 20 days into it and we’ve done 15 field trips. So we still need the help of the community to come out and get these dogs out on field trips. We still have about 25 field trips to do.” The 40 field trips need to be done with 40 different dogs.

Stop by the shelter any time between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, or between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Shelter staff will work to match a dog with you based on energy level and the type of activity you’d like to do, whether that’s a jog on the Kewash Trail or going home to cuddle while watching a movie.
