The Mid-Prairie girls golf team defended their home course and advanced through the first round of regionals Monday at the Kalona Golf Course.
The Golden Hawks were named regional champions with their round of 410, edging second place Prairie City Monroe by a single shot. The Golden Hawks were led by meet medalist Abbi Patterson with her round of 99. After the meet she talked about her day. “Honestly, I think I could have played a little bit better, but I did enough to get by which is good. I need to work on getting my driver more consistent going into second round. On hole four on my front nine, my drive was kind of close to the trees but I got out and made my par putt. It was big to get par from a trouble spot. This was really exciting for us. We came in expecting to do well. Fulfilling that was good for us.”
Other scores for the Golden Hawks included Abby Statler with a 100, Emma Mattes 102, Georgia Nisly 109, Kendra Schaefer 116 and Amerah Rediger 140. With the win, Mid-Prairie advances to the regional final to try to earn a bid to the state meet. That tournament will be played Monday in Pleasantville.
