In a battle of top five teams in class 1A, it was all Iowa City Regina Tuesday night at Regal Field as the No. 2 Regals took out No. 5 Iowa Mennonite School 5-0 on the soccer pitch.

Regina built a 3-0 lead in the first half and added a pair of insurance goals in the second half to put the match out of reach. IMS put together a few chances but illness and Regina were too much to overcome. After the match IMS head coach Marcus Miller talked about what he saw. “We were missing two starters. You realize how much you miss a kid like Cody Jones during a match like this. Last night we ended practice with just 13 healthy bodies, most of those were JV guys. So, the plan was to come up and compete, see what happens and hold our heads up. We learn a lot from games like this. It’s not any fun to lose, but I was proud of the way they competed and jumped in.”

IMS ended the match with a pair of shots on goal, both from Louis Etienne. Defensively Blake Bontrager made 11 saves for IMS. Alec Wick led Regina with a hat trick. The loss snaps a four match winning streak for IMS and they are back in action tonight when they travel to Central Lee.
