
Mediapolis played host to the Southeast Iowa Super Conference north division track meet on Thursday with numerous KCII area teams competing.
The Highland girls had the top area finish in second out of nine teams with 103 points while Pekin won the title with 156. Other scores included Winfield-Mt. Union in fifth with 74 points, Lone Tree seventh with 51, IMS eighth with 43, and Columbus Community ninth with 23. It was a new meet, but same story for Emily Yahnke, as she nabbed first place in the 100m (13.07) and long jump (17.0.25’’). She was also the anchor leg of the winning 4x100m (52.35) and 4x200m relay (1:50.73). Madison Thomann managed second place for the Huskies in the 1500m (5:23.69). Anna Hudson was a conference champ at shot put for WMU (35’3.5’’) and the shuttle hurdle relay also stormed past all competition (1:17.56). Holley Johnson had the lone first place finish for Lone Tree in the 100m hurdles (17.10) and she claimed third in the 400m hurdles (1:13.11). Angie Byas was fourth for Columbus Community in the long jump (14’11’’).
On the boys’ side Winfield-Mt. Union placed fourth overall with 81 points and Wapello walked away with the conference championship with 160. Lone Tree was fifth with 75 points, Highland seventh with 32, and Columbus with 30 in eighth. The Wolves’ Talon Newton added a conference title to his resume in the high jump (5’8’’) and the 4x200m relay won as well (1:34.39). Lone Tree’s Brady Dauber won first in the long jump (20’0.25’’) and Cale Yoder was third in the shot put (43’2.75’’). Highland’s Connor Grinstead was fourth in the long jump (18’3’’) and Columbus Community’s 4x800m relay placed second (9:02.71).
All teams compete in a state-qualifying meet next Thursday.
