
The No. 7 ranked Iowa Mennonite School boys soccer team ran their winning streak to three straight with a golden goal overtime win Monday 3-2 at Fairfield.
IMS had momentum early, taking a 1-0 lead in the third minute of the match as the ball went from Kobe Borntrager to Jacob Boller to Louis Etienne to the back of the net. In the 17th minute the Trojans found the equalizer to make the score 1-1. Late in the first half, Fairfield was guilty of a handball in the box and Boller knocked in the resulting penalty kick to give IMS a 2-1 lead going to the break.
Things stayed that way until the 74th minute when a Fairfield player was taken down in the box and the Trojans were awarded a penalty kick that they used to tie the game. With the score even at two at the end of regulation the two teams opened up the first overtime session. Seven minutes into the extra frame Cody Jones send a long ball to Etienne who beat the Fairfield defense and keeper for the golden goal. With the win, IMS is now 5-1 overall and takes on Wapello Tuesday.
