
Saturday was the first annual Eastern Iowa Track and Field Festival held at Iowa City West High School.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and Sigourney girls both made their mark at the meet. Top finish for the Golden Hawks came from Aidan Rath, taking eighth in the high jump, Jack Baker was eighth in the shot put and the Mid-Prairie 4×400 team of Quinn Schmidt, Elmir Ganibegovic, Miles Burrows and Grant Boyse was eighth. Other finishes for Mid-Prairie included ninth for the 4×800 team of Quinn Schmidt, Brad Tornow, Thaddeus Shetler and Miles Burrows, 10th for Elmir Ganibegovic in the 100 and 10th for the 4×200 team of Elmir Ganibegovic, Grant Boyse, Tom Butters and Aidan Rath. Micah Gugel was 13th in the discus and the 4×400 team of Jack Baker, Caleb Thomas, Justin Schwartz and Brad Tornow was 17th.
The Sigourney girls crowned one champion on the day with Summer Barthelman winning the 400 in a time of 1:00.37. Other top finishes for the Savages include Barthelman second in the long jump, third for the shuttle hurdle team of Sloane Magill, Rylee Goldman, Heidi Clarahan and Barthelman, fourth for Kaylee Weber in the shot put, fifth for Megan Stuhr in the discus, eighth for Sloane Magill in the 100 hurdles, eighth for Rylee Goldman in the 200 and eighth for the 4×100 team of Kaylee Weber, Megan Stuhr, Heidi Clarahan and Hannah Lucas and 11th for Reagan Rozenboom in the 800.
