The Washington Community School District has decided to keep spring break as scheduled and snow make up days will be observed elsewhere on the calendar. At Wednesday’s school board meeting, Superintendent Willie Stone explained that a survey for preferences on how to make up the lost time was completed by staff, and he shared the results, “A large majority of them wanted to use spring break days. There were two parts to that: first, to see if our staff wanted to use spring break days; the second part of that was trying to see if we would have enough subs to be able to do that. Because I do believe that staff members who had plans already, hotels, plane tickets, I don’t believe it’s fair to say, ‘You have to be here.’ So, we are trying to plan for that and in researching that we’re going to have over 30 staff members gone. And we do not have that many subs. So, the use of spring break for snow make up days is not possible for us.”

The school board approved having class February 15th and 18th, as well as April 22nd. Additional school days will be added to the end of the year as needed. An official end of school has not been set. Stone said there’s a chance that with winter weather lingering, there may need to be additional days made up.
