A one-man show is coming to Washington Sunday and it will benefit local veterans and their families. American Legion Post 29 is presenting American Dreamer: The Life and Times of Henry A. Wallace. Ken Lindmeier explains that actor Tom Milligan will portray Wallace on stage, “He dresses the part and everything, and he tries to get his voice inflection, I mean this guy is a professional in every sense of the word. He’s really good.” Wallace was born in Iowa and founded Pioneer Hi-Bred Seed, and he also served as the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, and was the Vice President to Franklin Roosevelt. Lindmeier adds that it’s an educational experience, and he encourages students to attend, “First of all, it’d be a great history lesson because Henry Wallace was a great historian and stuff. And just myself, I mean I’ve read what he did, but I don’t really know anything about his personal life or what kind of character he was and so on, and he’s going to delve into that during the play. So I’ll learn a lot just on that particular thing. And also, I think you’ll learn about some of the times and some of the prejudices that they had.”
The show will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Washington Area Performing Arts and Events Center at the high school. Tickets are $10 for adults, and anyone under the age of 18 is free.
