There is an emergency need for blood donors. According to the American Red Cross, severe winter weather along with influenza outbreaks in 36 states has caused the reissuance of an emergency plea for blood and platelet donations. Donations, especially platelet and blood donors with type O blood, are needed to help restock shelves. According to the American Red Cross, one donation can save up to three lives and every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. Blood donations help people in a variety of situations including cancer patients, trauma patients, burn patients, and patients with chronic diseases. To donate blood you must be at least 16 years old, in good health, feeling well, and weigh at least 110 pounds.
A blood drive is being sponsored by Washington Rotary at 1:30 p.m. February 21st at the United Presbyterian Church. For more information email Paul Horak at paul@horakinsurance.com or go to www.bloodcenterimpact.org. Use Group Sponsor Code 154 to schedule online. Please eat before donation. Must have photo ID to donate.
