Food and entertainment are offered at the Washington High School annual soup speech showcase. Attendees can attend and try a variety of soups made by students and then vote for their favorite one by putting coins into jars. Following the soup buffet, speech students will be performing. Speech coach Michaella Zimmerman shares why it’s beneficial for the students, “I think it’s really neat because they can look out into the audience and see familiar faces, instead of a cold, stone face in front of them judging them, they have their friends and family to surround them. So they’re a little bit more relaxed and they put on a really good performance to impress their friends and family.” The soup showcase begins at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Washington High School and is a freewill donation. Earlier this week the Demons had 11 groups compete at the district large group speech contest in Lone Tree. Seven of those teams were selected to advance to the state contest at Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School on February 2nd.
