The second wettest year on record for the state of Iowa is 2018. According to the Midwestern Regional Climate Center, heavy rain fell in northern Iowa many times in 2018 and a 124-year-old precipitation record in Waterloo was broken with over 54 inches of precipitation. According to State Climatologist of Iowa Justin Glisan, the only year that had more precipitation in Iowa was 1993, the year of the Great Flood. According to the National Weather Service, in Washington the average precipitation for the year is 36.49 inches and in 2018 it was above normal at 44.94 inches.
