The Iowa Mennonite School boys and girls basketball teams came away with a pair of wins on Tuesday at Hillcrest Union in Kalona over their rival Lone Tree.

In a tight girls game, it was IMS who came out on top by a 58-55 count. Lone Tree led early, holding a 14-10 advantage after one quarter and a slim 29-28 lead at the half. IMS turned the tables out of the locker room, outscoring Lone Tree 18-10 in the third and holding the Lions off down the stretch for the three point win. Suzanna Yoder led the IMS attack, scoring 35 points and finishing with eight boards, six assists and six steals. Mia Graber added 13 for IMS. IMS is now 2-1 on the year, Lone Tree falls to 0-3.

In the boys contest, Iowa Mennonite opened the year with a 68-46 win. Holding an 11-10 lead after one quarter, IMS outscored Lone Tree 22-14 in the second to take a 33-24 lead into the break. Lone Tree responded with a 20 point third quarter to climb within six going to the fourth but IMS pulled away down the stretch with an 18-6 run that lasted the entire fourth quarter to seal the win. Trevor Leyden led IMS with 23 points, Jeremy Niemeyer went for a double double with 16 points and 10 boards, Eli Ours had 11 points, and Caleb Gingerich finished with 10. IMS is now 1-0 on the year, Lone Tree falls to 0-1.
