The Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball team competed in the Holy Trinity Classic last night, sweeping Mount Pleasant and getting swept by Danville and Holy Trinity.
The Wolves took the contest against Mount Pleasant fairly easily, winning the sets by scores of 21-11 and 21-19. Then they faced off against fourth-ranked Holy Trinity and lost both sets by the same score, 21-11. In the finale, the Wolves faced Danville and fell 21-16 and 21-14.
The Wolves’ attack was led by Jenna Buffington and Jami Wilkerson, with 15 and 12 kills across the three games, respectively. Kayla Edwards led the way in both assists and serving, setting up successful points 27 times and serving a perfect 16-16, along with three aces, throughout the tournament.
This moves WMU to 8-7 on the season going into the conference tournament. That opens up on Thursday night at Central Lee, with the Wolves facing off against Mediapolis, Burlington Notre Dame and the hosting Hawks.
