The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team is on the road Friday in search of their first victory of the 2018 campaign when they travel to North Liberty to take on the Iowa City Liberty Lightning.

The Hawks fell last Friday in their home opener for the season 22-6 to No. 9 Wilton in a murky, muddy slugfest that saw the Hawks struggle on offense, compiling just four total first downs, 102 total yards and -8 yards on the ground. His favorite target is Justin Schwartz with 11 catches for 89 yards on the year. On the ground Schwartz leads the way with 36 carries for 114 yards. Grant Boyse and Jack Baker share the defensive lead, each with 21.5 tackles.

Iowa City Liberty comes into tonight with a 1-2 record on the year. They fell to Washington at Case Field last Friday 35-19. Their lone win came in week two over Waterloo East 18-6. In their loss to the Demons, the Lightning posted 373 total yards of offense. For the year IC Liberty is led by Drake Woody who is 19 of 36 through the air for 273 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Woody’s favorite target is Ben Houselog with seven catches for 148 yards. On the ground Jack Ankenbauer has 67 carries for 229 yards and four touchdowns. This week, Mid-Prairie head football coach Pete Cavanagh looked back on his team’s performance against Wilton while turning the focus to Liberty. “We’re getting kids in the right spot, and they are figuring it out. We have a lot of new starters at different positions. They fought like heck, but it’s things like penalties. For improvement, our attitude and our effort have been awesome all year. We just have to be able to sustain things offensively and be smart defensively.”
