The Oscar race has started for film hopefuls from around the world and one contender happens to be from southeast Iowa.
The Hollywood Reporter released their first look at the 2018-2019 Oscar Race and among the contenders for Best Documentary Feature is Saving Brinton, which features local historian Michael Zahs and the Brinton collection of some of the world’s oldest films. Zahs comments on sharing the journey of the documentary with Washington County residents, “It involves everybody and it’s just fun to have other people enjoy this, and people say that we’re the most promoted state in the world right now.”
The 91st Oscars nominations will be announced on January 22nd and the awards show will air on February 24th. Saving Brinton has several screenings across the U.S. and the world this fall including the Newburyport Documentary Film Festival in Massachusetts, the Cinema Museum in London, and the Herbert Hoover Library in West Branch.
