Kids are back in class and the calendar says summer should be winding down but the weather in southeast Iowa has had other ideas recently.

Temperatures over the weekend rose into the upper 80s, pushing heat indices into the triple digits, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory for the KCII listening area that will stay in effect through Monday evening. The forecast for the rest of August calls for a round of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday to break the heatwave, and temperatures to remain in the 70s until next weekend.
