After their annual town celebration the City of Wellman is looking to make changes to their golf cart and ATV ordinances.

The city council held a work session at their recent meeting to discuss their ordinances after some issues arose during the 4th of July, according to City Administrator Kelly Litwiller, “We just had a couple incidents where some younger kids were riding golf carts and having multiple passengers and so when we went through and we were looking at our ordinances. There were a couple things that contradicted each other from one chapter to another chapter in regards to golf carts and then currently ATV’s are not allowed in city limits and so we just want to get things up to date and figure out a way to make it easier to enforce those codes on a regular basis.”

The council discussed issues such as age requirements for operators, hours of operation allowed, and where ATV’s and golf carts can be driven. The council decided to keep the golf cart and ATV ordinances separate, and Litwiller will take the items discussed to their city attorney to have a new ordinance draft presented to the council at a future meeting.
