The Lone Tree Lion football team opened up their season Friday night, falling narrowly on the road to Midland 50-47.
It was a battle throughout. The Lions got out to an early lead, but, according to head coach Aaron Bohr, some mistakes in the second quarter proved costly, and Midland went on a run. The Lions couldn’t quite make the comeback, but Bohr is ultimately very happy with the way his guys performed.
“The one thing we’ve preached all alog is mental toughness; never flinching,” Bohr said.
“We had a lot of times along the way where a team of lesser character would have just packed it in and said ‘okay, let’s get ready for next week.’ But even when the cards were stacked against us, our guys fought; we made a run at the end. We never gave up, but we just ran out of time. So more than anything, I’m just happy with the way our guys fought.
Their next game will be this coming Friday on the road against Montezuma. Kickoff is set for 7:00.
