Most of the state’s high school football teams will not start their seasons for another week. But for eight-man squads like the WACO Warrior football team, the season comes a week early.
WACO will kick off their season tomorrow night by heading up to Janesville, a two-hour drive (approximately) up Highway 218 from Wayland. Head coach Chad Edeker says the players are just as eager as he is to get things going.
“We were doing a drill yesterday, and we had the quarterbacks, receivers and backs at one end doing some stuff, and I look down at our offensive lineman are down there and we’ve got six guys,” Edeker said.
“So when you only have six offensive linemen, you tend to go against the same kids every day in practice. So yeah, the kids are really ready to go get someone else.”
Kickoff from Janesville is set for 7:30 p.m.
