In the midst of preparing for the upcoming marching band season, a select group of the Washington High School Marching Band is heading to Indianapolis this weekend to what’s referred as “Marching Music’s Major League.”
Washington students will be attending the Drum Corps International World Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium. Senior Drum Major Meghan Newman is going on the trip, “DCI is Drum Corps International, and so these are kind of professional marching bands and they’re called corps and they tour the country and they compete really intensely. So it’s kind of like high school marching band on steroids. It’s super cool for anybody that likes to watch bands, so our school is really lucky that we take a few students out to Indianapolis where the competition is held and we watch the finals for this world competition, so it’s very cool.”
Newman adds that she enjoys watching the dedication of these groups of young musicians that put in the time and effort over the summer to make it to the championships. The Demons will head back to Washington Sunday where they’ll continue band camp to prepare for this year’s show titled “The Witch and the Saint.”
