Coming in to this season, Jordan VanEe of Sigourney had a total of ten varsity starts in the pitching circle.  She surpassed that number, and so many more, this season alone.

VanEe was the workhorse pitcher for the Savages this season, starting 25 games and throwing for a 1.64 ERA, which was second-lowest in the South Iowa Cedar League.  She also tied for the conference-low among starting pitchers in hits allowed against conference opponents, which was aided by two no-hitters against Montezuma and Iowa Valley.  She was also one of only six pitchers in the conference to throw for 100+ strikeouts.

On top of all those pitching accolades, head coach Shelly Streigle also stresses VanEe’s defensive ability.

“Defensively, I couldn’t believe how many balls were hit back at her and she fielded her position,” Streigle said.  “[She’s] probably one of the best fielding pitchers around.”

Her success was good enough to earn her first-team all-conference honors, as well as an honorable mention at the all-state level.  She will return next year for her senior season.
