The Southeast Conference released its all-conference teams last night, and Washington was well-represented, with eight Demons being named all-conference in some capacity.
Washington led all conference schools in first-team selections with five. Junior Chase McDole was named for his performance on the pitcher’s mound, sophomore Luke Turner got the nod for his outstanding season across the board, senior Landon Hinkley is the first-team DH, and Brady Knutson was named to the utility spot. Cade Hennigan rounds out the first-teamers as the Southeast Conference Player of the Year.
McDole led all starting pitchers in the conference with a 1.76 ERA; the only sub-2 ERA in the conference among starters. He also finished top-ten in the conference in strikeouts with 32.
Turner lit it up in all aspects of the game. His offense was incredible, coming second in the conference in batting average among regular players (.464), fourth in RBI (39), and leading the conference in stolen bases with 23. He was also lights out on the mound; in nine appearances, he threw 16.2 innings, struck out 17 and walked eight on a 2.20 ERA.
Hinkley and Knutson were the team’s two catchers this season, with Hinkley DH-ing and Knutson manning third base while the other was behind the plate. Both of them finished with batting averages over .300; Knutson had the better slugging percentage at .378, but Hinkley sported the superior on-base percentage at .463. Knutson also led all pitchers in the conference with 4+ appearances in ERA with an 0.47 mark.
The Demons got two second-teamers in juniors Kole Hinrichsen and Brant Stout. Hinrichsen led the entire conference in strikeouts with 64, as well as posted a perfect 6-0 record on a 2.72 ERA in 36 innings pitched. Stout tied for second on the team- and second in the conference- in stolen bases with 22 and sported an on-base percentage of .479.
Senior Jacob Hall was given an honorable mention to round out the all-conference selections. As a pitcher, first baseman and the occasional outfielder, he finished the season as one of four Demons to cross the 20-RBI threshold. He also finished with a 2-4 record on the mound, sporting a 3.68 ERA and 21 strikeouts through 32.1 innings pitched.
