Over 250 head of livestock were sold at the Washington County Fair by 4-H and FFA members last year and soon fair members will again have their livestock up on the auction block.

The Washington County Fair kicks off July 15th and comes to a close the 20th. Washington County 4-H and Youth Coordinator Amy Green shares what order the auction will take place the morning of the 20th, “This year’s order, we kind of rotate what is first, second, and third every year so each animal kind of gets some prime spots. So this year, we’re actually starting with poultry, cattle, sheep, goats, rabbits, and then at the end we’ll be selling a ribbon sale only for our swine champions. So, we encourage people to come and stay the whole time, but if they’re looking for a specific type of animal that’s how we’ll go through.” Across the state 4-Hers produce about 17 million pounds of meat with their livestock projects. Green shares thanks for all of the buyers who come to the auction, as the money goes to local youth. The auction starts at 8:30 a.m. on the fairgrounds and a breakfast is held prior to it.
