The YMCA of Washington County made a funding request at Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting.
The YMCA is in the process of fundraising to build a new facility in phases in Washington, with the first phase costing about $9.2 million. The YMCA’s fundraising committee is applying for a grant through Enhance Iowa that is due mid-July for $900,000. The project was recently awarded a $3.5 million grant by the Washington County Riverboat Foundation and has nearly $4.5 million in pledges committed. The YMCA requested $20,000 from the supervisors which can be split over multiple years, to show local support for the grant application. The supervisors decided to table the item and no official action was taken.
