Ten artists took part in the first Washington En Plein Air art contest over the weekend.

The event was hosted by Art Domestique. The art pieces were sold for a total of $1,175. Joann Worley with the non-profit explained how the contest worked, “They sign in about 7:30 in the morning, and they get their canvas or whatever backboard they’re going to work on stamped so that we know that it was in there legally. Then they are given a list of spots in town and they go out and choose something to paint. There’s time limits; they have to have at least one, if not two paintings done by the end of the day.” Artists could use paints, oils, pastels and other mediums featuring scenes from around Washington.

First place had a $500 prize and it went to Jessica Kirby, second place ($250) to Deb Baughman, and third place ($150) to Marcia Kruse.
