The Washington Demon softball team suffered a couple of losses in Saturday’s Oskaloosa tournament play against Pella and Knoxville.

They came out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning against the Dutch, but that was all the scoring they had.  Megan Mitchell had the team’s lone RBI of the game on a 2-2 day at the plate.  Alexa Mitchell took the loss in the pitching circle, giving up seven runs (four earned) on nine hits in three innings pitched.

The game against Knoxville was much closer, with a 7-4 final score in favor of the Panthers.  Knoxville went out to a 3-0 lead early on, but the Demons struck for four runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead 4-3.  The Panthers did the same in the bottom half, however,  scoring four runs to re-take the lead 7-4.

Haylee Wilson led the offense out of the three hole in that one, going 1-4 with two RBI and a run scored.  Three pitchers saw the circle, with Cara Linnenkamp getting the start with two runs allowed on two hits in two innings pitched.  Alexa Mitchell also threw, allowing five runs to cross the plate (only one earned) on five hits.  Molly Sparks pitched two shutout innings to close it out.

This moves the Demons to 5-9 on the season.  Their next action will be Tuesday night here at home against sixth-ranked Oskloosa with a 5:30 game one first pitch.  You can catch coverage of that one on KCII 106.1 FM starting at 5:00 with the Washington HyVee Pregame Show.
