The No. 2 ranked Iowa Mennonite School boys soccer team saw their season come to an end Thursday in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament at the hands of No. 9 Des Moines Christian 4-0.

The Lions entered the match with the most high powered offense in the state, led by the most dynamic player in the state Ben Webster, and both of those were on display early. Webster put the Lions ahead in the fifth minute with a goal. IMS controlled the next 20 minutes of game action, but could not put anything on the board. Des Moines Christian went to Webster again for a clutch goal in the final two minutes of the first half to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.

Out of the break, IMS again put together several good scoring opportunities but could not find the back of the net. The Lions would add to their lead on a Cody Smith shot to the upper 90 from the edge of the 18 in the 56th minute to make it 3-0. Des Moines Christian would add one more goal, following a penalty kick called on a push in the box on a free kick. Webster connected on the PK for his hat trick to run the lead to 4-0 in the 59th minute. With the loss, IMS wraps up their season at 18-2 and say good bye to seniors Isaiah Swantz, Cole Ours, Gerardo Mendoza, Mitchell Schmeider, Reggie Borntrager, and Levi Geyer.
