Mid-Prairie students can leave school and dive head first into summer this Wednesday as the Kalona Municipal Pool opens.
The pool will open at 1 p.m. for the summer, and public swim hours are from 1-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 1-6 p.m. Sunday. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says the city council is in talks to have the YMCA of Washington County manage the pool this summer, “We are leaning on the Y this pool season to help provide management to the current staff that we have. It’ll be in line with what we’ve done in the past, it’ll kind of give us an idea of if it’s a mutually beneficial arrangement that we might look at going further down the road with.”
Inability of previous pool managers to commit full-time in the summer brought on this change, according to Schlabaugh. A contract will be brought to the city council at their next meeting for the Y to have daily oversight of the pool, swimming lessons, and management of its city employees.
