A single-vehicle wreck resulted in one fatality and another injured in Jefferson County Saturday morning. According to the Iowa State Patrol, at 8 a.m. a van driven by 42-year-old Wendy Leann Courtney of Ottumwa was southbound on County Road H43 north of 240th Street when it went into the ditch. The van struck an embankment, and then vaulted and rolled, coming to rest on its top.

Courtney was pronounced dead at the scene and had been wearing a seat belt. An eight-year-old boy was taken by Air Ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Batavia and Libertyville Fire and EMT personnel assisted at the scene.
