Things were tense Thursday at Pleasant Valley Golf Course for the Winfield-Mt. Union boys golf team.

The Wolves advanced to the Class 1A state tournament with their runner-up finish at the district meet. Winfield-Mt. Union shot a 343, finishing one stroke behind district champion New London. The Wolves were led by individual district champion Kaleb Hagge and his even-par round of 72. Other scores for the Wolves included Nolan Ross 87, Jarod Kadel 91, Noah Freeman 93, Kash Rossiter 96 and Graham Hagge 99.

The Keota Eagles also competed as a team on Thursday, finishing ninth in the 12 team field with an overall score of 384. Luke Hammen led the Eagles with a 90. Other scores for Keota included Jack Eakins 91, Riley Conrad 95 and Branden Hyman, Chase Kindred and Max Johnson all at 108

Dustin Haines competed individually for Sigourney, taking seventh overall with his score of 84. Trevor Leyden of Iowa Mennonite School also competed individually, placing 40th with a score of 96. The class 1A state golf tournament will be played in Newton at Westwood Golf Course.
