At this time last year Iowa did not have any drought conditions and now nearly 40% of the state is abnormally dry.
Currently 12.6% of Iowa is in moderate drought, stretching across southern Iowa from Jefferson and Keokuk Counties west to Fremont County. All of Washington County is abnormally dry, as are Louisa, Henry, Iowa, and Johnson Counties. At this time the estimated population in Iowa in drought areas is 200,588.
