The Washington girls soccer team struck early, but it was Fort Madison that got the Southeast Conference win Monday at Washington High School 5-2.
The Demons broke through in the 23rd minute when Abby Voss beat the Bloodhound defense to make it 1-0 Demons. That lead stood until the 32nd minute when Taylor Shannon connected on a goal to even the score at one. Just two minutes later Fort Madison took their first lead of the night on a deflected own goal from Washington at 2-1, and that’s where the score stood at the break. In the second half, the Demons tied things on a Jessica Hora penalty kick goal in the 56th minute but Fort Madison had the answer down the stretch, taking the lead back on a 58th minute tally and adding a pair of insurance goals in the 72nd and 78th minute to finish out the win.
With the loss, Washington falls to 0-9 as they get ready for Mount Pleasant Thursday.
