Washington County will be on display in South Korea this week as the documentary Saving Brinton is one of the selections at the JeonJu International Film Festival.

The film’s focal point Michael Zahs will be in South Korea for six days, giving lectures on the Brinton film collection and trying all the cuisine. South Korea is one of several international stops the documentary has made, including Argentina, Greece, and the Netherlands. Zahs predicts international visitors will come to Washington County, too, “Washington County is the most promoted county in the world right now, of Iowa, and so it’s just fun to promote Iowa and Washington County all over the world. It’s just great fun, and it’s been so well received, and I think there will be a lot of people who will come here to the county that we may not even know they’re here, but they’re here because of experiencing the film.”

After South Korea, Saving Brinton will be screened in New York City and Los Angeles in order to qualify for an Academy Award. A Kickstarter campaign has upped it’s goal from $35,000 to $50,000 to cover promotion and other expenses for these showings. The campaign has until Wednesday (5/9) to raise the funds.
