The City of Wellman is ahead of the curve for plans for RAGBRAI stopping through town July 27.

Committee co-chair and city council member Shannon McCain says they are ahead of schedule, with the help of vendor Ed Twedt organizing the set up for visitors. Twedt leads a group of 11 vendors who travel throughout the state for RAGBRAI, and found Wellman to be the perfect spot for that Friday. Bicyclists will make the longest trek between towns that day to Wellman, 13.9 miles from Keota. The 11 vendors coming to Wellman will have turkey legs, lemonade, grilled cheese, and more. The city is charging $250 for out-of-town vendors, and $100 for local organizations. McCain comments on the city’s objective, “Honestly, I know a lot of towns have been putting out a lot of money to make it a big event and spending a lot of taxpayers’ dollars. We want to try to make it so we’re spending as little money as possible and make it so our vendors are making the money, not the city. We’re not in it to make a bunch of money, we’re in it to basically break even and make it a great event for everybody.”

The main hub for vendors will be on 8th Avenue and 3rd Street downtown, as well as a deejay, beer garden, and sand green golf course. If you are interested in volunteering contact the Wellman City Hall.
