While no formal action was taken regarding a vacancy on the Washington City Council, it was mentioned at Tuesday’s council meeting.

Washington Mayor Jaron Rosien spoke of Kerry Janecek’s resignation, “It’s a privilege to pass on gratitude to Kerry Janecek for his service on City Council and to pass on best wishes for him in the future. Kerry was a diligent counselor and he will be missed, I think I speak for everyone when I say that.” In closing remarks, council member Steve Gault said he thinks the vacancy should be filled with an election and not be appointed. Janecek represented Ward 1 in the northeast quadrant of the city. The vacancy can be filled by either an appointment by the council or by election, which can be requested by the public through petition. The vacancy will be on the agenda for the council’s May 15th meeting
