Five area teams on the boys side competed in the Co-Ed WMU Invitational at Winfield-Mt. Union on Thursday. The Washington Demons won the event with a total score of 119.5 points. West Burlington were runners up with 116 points.
The Demons had five championships on the day. Cade Hennigan won the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.36. Evan Horak won the 1600-meter run with the time of 4:59.74. Brennan Horak took the 3200 with the time of 10:51.92. The 4×200-meter relay team of Spencer Sotelo, Tanner Murphy, Sawyer Whistler and Ryan Reighard won in the time of 1:35.72, and the 4×800-meter run team of Justin Simmering, Kiowa Keith, Evan Horak, and Michael Kimball won in the time of 9:18.95. Other top finishers were Ethan Hunt runner-up in the 400. Keith finished second in the 800. The sprint medley relay team of Hennigan, Murphy, Whistler, and Spencer Sotelo finished second, and the distance medley team of Trevor Quigley, Luke Turner, Justin Simmering, and Brennan Horak finished second. Marshall Patterson finished third in the discus. The team of Quigley, Jarrett Bender, Bryan Martin and Ben Schiefer, finished third in the sprint medley.
Winfield-Mt. Union finished third in the team results with a score of 70. The Wolves had two event championships, both from Brandon Snowden. Snowden won the 200 in the time of 23.45 and the 400 in 52.69. Snowden took second in the 100. Brody Barton took second in the 1600 and the 3200-meter runs. The team of Talon Newton, Dane Sweezer, Christion Garot, and Juanito Piper took second in the shuttle hurdle relay and third in the 4×400 relay.
The Lone Tree Lions finished fourth as a team with 60 points. The Lions had three championships on the day. Casey Shalla won the discus with a throw of 131-07, and the shot put with a throw of 43-08.5. The team of Brock Smith, Alex Viner, Keegan Edwards, and Ty Griffin won the shuttle hurdle relay in the time of 1:06.59. Other top finishers were Cole Yoder third in the shot put and Nick Saltzman third in the 800.
The Columbus Wildcats finished sixth as a team with 44 points. Top finishers for the Wildcats were a second place from Abel Mena in the 400 hurdles. The 4×800 relay team of Will Schwab, Hunter Hummitson, Bryce Garner, and James Spurlock took second. Tommy Pretz finished third in the 110 hurdles and the long jump.
The WACO Warriors finished ninth with 24 points. The Warriors top finish was a second place in the 4×200-meter run with the team of Colton Battle Jr, Jeff Huston, Elijah McGohan, and Colton Horak. The 4×100 meter relay team of Jalen Collins, Battle, McGohan and Horak finished third
On the Girls side, Lone Tree Lions finished tied for fourth with 50 points. The Danville Bears won the meet with the score of 139. The lions had two championships as Emily Feldman won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.41. The 4×800 relay team of Sydney Alt, Natalie Patterson, Macie Bopp, and Heather Geiger won with a time of 11:07.35. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Holly Johnson, Zoey Simonsen, Chloe Jacque, and Feldman finished second. Johnson finished third in the 400 hurdles.
The WACO Warriors finished sixth with 45 points. The Warriors lone champion was the shuttle hurdle relay team of Molly McLaughlin, Grace Conwell, Laney Graber, and Kiana Miller 1:11.92. McLaughlin was runner up in the 100 hurdles. The 4×200 team of Miller Kaylee Sherman, Conwell, Graber finished second. The 4×100 team of Ashleigh Hallett, Miller, Graber, and Conwell finished third.
The Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves finished seventh as team with 44 points. Their best finish was second place in the 1600-meter relay for the team of Mary Guillen, Avery Maeder, Kyndal Townsley, Cecella Hemsworth. Townsley added a third place in the 100 Hurdles.
The Columbus Wildcats finished eighth with a score of 41 points. The Wildcats top finishes were second places in the 400 meters and the long jump from Anna Hamilton. Michelle Diaz threw her way into second place in the shot put. The Wildcats took third in the 4×200 with the team of Hamilton, Olivia Carrier, Michelle Martinez, and Angie Byas
